CattleWomen Activities

Beef Consumer Representative – An educational opportunity for youth ages 13-20 to make a presentation in support of the beef industry for the competition currently held in the Fall.  Further information about the contest and responsibilities of the winner can be found at separate link on the FCW webpage.

Beef For the Holidays – Each year a charity is chosen to support.  Suggestions can be made to the Executive Committee at any time during the year but the choice is usually made in June in order to appoint a chairman.  Usually item donations as well as money to purchase Beef Gift Certificates are collected up until the December meeting.

Beef Shortcourse – The Education Chairman (President Elect) is also chair of Beef Shortcourse.  The chair suggests ideas to the Board and when a topic is chosen arranges for and publicizes the event.  All Cattlewomen are invited to attend.

Beef Education – The Education Chair is responsible for attending various educational, health, and consumer affairs conferences.  Samples of the free educational resources available from the Florida CattleWomen are displayed and discussed with these professionals.

Florida State Fair Booth and Beef Day – An Informational/Educational display is set up in a booth in the Agriculture Hall of Fame.  Recipes, nutrition and other pertinent beef industry information is available for fair attendees.  On one day of the Fair it is BEEF day in the Ag Hall of Fame.  Demonstrations are done on the stage and samples are distributed throughout the day along with stickers and the other information.

Fundraisers – At the present time there are two main fundraisers conducted.  In January a Sporting Clay Shoot is held.  So far all have been conducted at the Quail Creek Plantation in Okeechobee.  Monies are made from the entries, door prize tickets, green birds, a shotgun drawing and live auction. The second fundraiser is out long running $5,000 cash drawing at the Annual Convention.  While many tickets are always sold a convention it is very helpful if counties take tickets and sell to others outside of the industry.

Promotions – The Vice-President is in charge of promotions.  The Youth Beef T-shirt program is the biggest of these activities.  Approximately 3,000 shirts are distributed to youth beef exhibitors around the state.  The promotions chair also keeps an inventory of promotional items available to distribute to county groups to use in their local beef educational and promotional events.

Scrapbook – Each county is encouraged to compile a traditional or digital scrapbook.  These are judged at convention and awards given.  Some counties use these in promotions or give to the President as a memento of her year.

Southern Women’s Show - This Women’s show is a collection of all things female.  Booths cover kitchen items, food products, clothes, jewelry, accessories, health issues, decorating etc. etc.  Over the four day event 3-4 CattleWomen per day prepare samples of beef products and pass them out along with recipe, nutrition, and beef industry information.

Ways and Means – At the Quarterlies except for Tallahassee, the Ways and Means items are available for members to purchase.  While this activity does generate some funds it is meant more to be a way for members to purchase FCW items such as clothing and vehicle tags as well as other items thought interesting by the chairman including quality knives.
