In cooperation with the three established Cattle and Carcass Training Centers (CCTCs), USDA AMS Livestock and Poultry Program will present a series of educational webinars this fall, for cattle producers and other professionals involved in the reporting, delivery, and grading of feeder cattle, live cattle, and carcasses in the U.S.
Two in-person events were under development for this calendar year when the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted our plans. While the pandemic has stretched on, L&P and our CCTC partners agreed instead to collaborate on a virtual industry outreach activity. In a series of evening webinars, guest speakers from AMS-L&P, the U.S. Meat Animal Research Center (USDA-ARS), West Texas A&M University, Colorado State University, and CME Group, Inc. will cover an array of topics to broaden participants’ understanding of how live cattle and carcasses are evaluated for quality and yield, how these factors play into CME specifications for live deliveries and carcass deliveries, and the relationship between cattle production practices, the grading and acceptance process, and producer prices.
