Sweetheart Message November 2021

Hi everyone! I hope you have had a great month of September and are ready to move right into October! My September month was filled with the FCA Quarterly, county-related events, tailgates, and decorating a shoebox float.

The FCA had their first quarterly of the year on September 9-10th in Gainesville, Florida. These two days were packed with information regarding the future of FCA, an update from the NCBA, and hosted committee meetings. We concluded our meeting with a Steak Out at the UF Horse Teaching Unit where we ate a fulfilling supper and fellowshipped with one another. Our next meeting with be December 2nd and 3rd in Sarasota, Florida. I encourage you to come out and attend the meetings and network with fellow cattlemen and women.
On September 11th, the Manatee County Cattlemen’s Association hosted their annual Fish Fry event, where they celebrate their year of accomplishments and crowing their new Sweetheart. The Junior club was able to sell 50/50 tickets to add some funds to their account. Also, Shelbie Davis from Bradenton, Florida, was crowned the new MCCA Sweetheart. She will represent Manatee County in June at our FCA Convention.

Now, it is that time of the year that every Saturday revolves around one thing and one thing only: college football. Now imagine incorporating a beef tailgate into a college football weekend. I was over the moon with excitement. The Beef Checkoff  hosted a beef tailgate before the Florida Vs. Alabama game where myself and other people from FCA and NCBA handed out freshly grilled beef kabobs along with a seasoning packet to people who attended the tailgate. This allowed us to connect with a wide range of people from all over to promote Beef and answer any questions they had. I then rounded my day off by attending the Florida Vs. Alabama football game, where Florida came so close to winning. Even though they didn’t pull through, it was still one of the most electric games I have ever attended. But the best part about it all was being able to fill fans up with beef before the game.
Lastly, the University of Florida College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) hosts a CALS Shoebox Homecoming Parade every year. This allows the college to donate back to the Field to Fork program here at UF. I made a float out of my roommate’s shoebox that showcased the 500-year celebration of Florida cattle ranching along with promoting the FCA. I was also featured as a Barbie Doll in the parade filming as the FCA Sweetheart. You can watch the parade on the CALS Facebook page as we promote the cattle industry in the college.
Overall, it has been a prosperous month, and I am looking forward to seeing what November brings. Again, my goal this year is to share our #Floridabeef500 story with everyone we can.
