April 2025 President's Message

Hello everyone!

This month marks the end of an era with Mr. Jim Handley retiring from his role as the Executive Vice President of the Florida Cattlemen’s Association and CEO of the Florida Beef Council. I am very thankful for his 27 years of service and feel privileged to have been able to work closely with him, especially this past year. I may be biased, but I believe we have the strongest state association in the Country because of Mr. Handley.

I would like to thank all the members who showed up to make sure ranchers’ voices were heard at the State Capitol last month. Our Legislative Quarterly is arguably our most important meeting of the year as we represent not only ranchers, but all of Florida agriculture. It’s always great to see everyone and hard to believe that our next large gathering will be in Marco Island!

We were presented with a positive membership report at the Legislative quarterly and the race is on for the “Just Ask” recruitment contest top prizes! We already have two members with over 10 recruits who will be receiving the Norbrook Top Hand Buckle in June. Way to go David Thomas and Lisa Carlton!

The Florida CattleWomen hosted their 17th Annual Fun Shoot last month which I had the pleasure of speaking at. Cattlemen and cattlewomen came together to shoot and had some great friendly competition.

I also had the opportunity to speak at the Manatee County Cattlemen’s Association Meeting. Our 2024-2025 FCA Sweetheart Miss Shaylynn Davis is from Manatee County and they have been very supportive of her this year as she has traveled the state promoting the FCA.

Mr. Handley has set us up for success and with membership growing, I am excited to see what the future holds for FCA. Keep up the good work recruiting members, and as always, stay Loyal to the Land!
